Cambridge-Belgrade International Persian Proficiency Test (CamBel IPPT)
The Cambridge-Belgrade International Persian Proficiency Test (CamBel IPPT) is a research-based academic project and an institutional Persian language proficiency examination developed within the framework of scholarly cooperation between the Department of Oriental Studies (Center for Persian Studies), Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade, and Persian Studies at the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, University of Cambridge. The project aims to design a standardized, transparent, and academically grounded assessment framework for evaluating the Persian language proficiency of non-native learners. The project has been formally reviewed and endorsed by the relevant Faculty academic bodies of the participating institutions.
CamBel IPPT is aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and assesses candidates’ communicative competence across core language skills, including reading, writing, listening, and language use. The examination is designed for learners of Persian in academic, professional, and educational contexts who require an objective, reliable, and research-informed evaluation of their language proficiency.
The project and the examination are developed in accordance with contemporary approaches to language assessment and learner corpus research. The test design, task types, and evaluation criteria are informed by empirical data drawn from Persian learner corpora, including the Cambridge-Belgrade Persian Learner Corpus (CamBel), thereby ensuring validity, transparency, and relevance to authentic learner language.
At its present stage, the CamBel IPPT is administered within the framework of the CamBel research project and institutional academic activities. The assessment is conducted for academic and research purposes. Participation in the examination does not constitute the award of a state-recognized qualification or an officially accredited university degree; however, an official certificate of participation and assessment results is issued by the CamBel project.
