The Persian (Farsi) Summer School at the University of Belgrade, situated within the European higher education context, is designed for international students, researchers, and professionals from the United States, the United Kingdom, and across Europe seeking intensive, university-level Persian language training. As one of the few university-organized Persian language summer programs in Europe, it combines structured instruction, small-group learning, and cultural immersion within a recognized academic framework.

Open to participants at different proficiency levels (A1-C2), the program awards an official certificate of completion issued by the University of Belgrade.

Course Description: Persian Summer School in Europe

Academic Framework

The Persian Summer School at the University of Belgrade is an academically recognized, university-based intensive program in Europe, offering structured Persian language instruction at multiple proficiency levels. Designed within a rigorous academic framework, the program has been highly appreciated by past participants for its quality and organization. As one of the few university-based Persian summer programs in Europe, the Summer School contributes to Persian language instruction within a European higher education context.

Program History and Schedule

Following the success of previous courses held between 2022 and 2025, the Faculty of Philology is pleased to announce the 5th Intensive Persian Summer School in Europe for international students, scheduled for July 2026.

Curriculum and Methodology

The course syllabus focuses on systematic instruction and active, communicative practice, helping participants make clear progress in Persian. In addition to language learning, the program highlights Persian culture and literature through thematic and interactive sessions. The program supports the development of Persian language proficiency while introducing key aspects of Persian culture and literature. In addition, the Center offers structured Persian online courses for participants worldwide.

Who Is This Program For?

The program is intended for university students, researchers, and professionals, as well as individuals with an academic or professional interest in the Persian language and Iranian studies, including heritage learners. It is suitable for both beginners and more advanced learners seeking structured, academically grounded instruction, with particular emphasis on the development of spoken Persian.

Course Outcomes

The course aims to develop Persian language skills, with a primary focus on communication, in an international academic environment, while introducing key aspects of Persian culture and literature. Upon completion of the program, participants will have strengthened their communicative competence in Persian and developed a solid foundation for academic, professional, or personal use of the language.

Instructors and Medium of Instruction

Instruction is provided by native Persian-speaking faculty members of the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade. Persian is the primary medium of instruction, ensuring an immersive learning environment, while English is used when necessary to support clarity and effective comprehension.

Assessments

Participants’ language proficiency is evaluated through an initial placement assessment prior to the start of the program, followed by ongoing formative assessment during the course. A final evaluation at the end of the program measures overall progress and learning outcomes.

Online Preparatory Classes

To support participants in preparing before the start of the Summer School and to help them achieve the best possible performance, optional online preparatory classes are offered. These classes are designed to strengthen foundational skills and are organised and charged separately from the main program.

Certificate

Participants receive an official certificate of attendance from the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade. A separate proficiency assessment is available through the CamBel Persian Proficiency Test, administered at the Faculty of Philology.

Excursion

Throughout the Persian Summer School, one educational excursion will be organised within the city of Belgrade, including a visit to the Belgrade Fortress. The excursion will be conducted in Persian and designed as a learning experience, concluding with an informal group gathering. A closing dinner, included in the program, will be held at the end of the course.

Workshops

The summer school includes additional free workshops on Persian calligraphy with the pen and an introduction to Persian mythology.

Please note that the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade, does not guarantee accommodation, as dormitory placements are subject to availability. However, applications submitted at least 20 days before the start of the course will be considered for student-rate accommodation at a student fee (link).
