About the Center for Persian Studies
The Center for Persian Studies at the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade, operating within the larger Center for Asian Studies and under the Department of Oriental Studies of the Faculty of Philology, is dedicated to introducing and developing Persian language, literature, and culture.
In addition to contributing to the regular curriculum of the Faculty, the Center develops research-oriented programs and scholarly publications, establishes specialized Persian language courses, facilitates intercultural and academic exchange, and advances systematic scholarship on Iranian languages, particularly Persian (Farsi), together with its literary and cultural heritage within the European university context.
Academic Cooperation and Research
The Center actively engages in inter-university cooperation in the organization of academic conferences, scholarly publications, and joint research initiatives. Particular emphasis is placed on foundational research projects, including the development of the Cambridge-Belgrade Persian Learner Corpus (CamBel Corpus), the Cambridge-Belgrade Persian Proficiency Test (CamBel PPT), and innovative approaches to Persian language pedagogy and assessment. Through these collaborative efforts, the Center contributes to the advancement of Persian studies within the broader international academic community.
Academic Programs
Building upon this academic foundation, the Center is recognized for organizing the International Persian Summer School in Europe, offering Online Persian Language Courses, and developing specialized Persian for Specific Purposes programs designed for academic, professional, and diplomatic contexts. Through these initiatives, the Center strengthens the presence of Persian language education in Europe and provides structured university-based training for international students and researchers.
